Cooking

Students learn practical skills such as how to wash hands correctly, use equipment safely in the kitchen environment and how to follow health and safety procedures.

They learn different cooking methods and how to prepare meals, developing skills in peeling, slicing and chopping, overall knife skills as well as mixing and stirring.

Students learn how to follow recipes, and produce a range of foods such as healthy cakes, snacks, soups and salads with as much independence as possible. Students produce a recipe book with their favourite dishes, devise a healthy menu and invite peers for lunch, developing conversational, social and communication skills.

Students will also develop employment skills such as how to work in a team, how to complete a task in a given time and how to keep a kitchen work space clean and tidy.
